Unregistered excavators, farm equipment will be seized from June 1, 2025 – DVLA

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued a stern warning to owners of unregistered excavators and farm equipment – register them or face the consequences. With a two-week ultimatum in place, the DVLA is not messing around when it comes to cracking down on illegal mining activities.

In a press conference held in Accra, Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey, Chief Executive of the DVLA, emphasized the importance of registering all excavators and farm equipment in accordance with the Road Traffic Act, 2004(Act 683). It has been revealed that a significant number of excavators on mining sites are operating without proper registration, which is a blatant violation of the law.

Under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 2004(Act 683), driving any motor vehicle or trailer without proper registration is illegal and punishable. The DVLA is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to enforce the law and curb illegal mining activities in the country.

Starting from June 1, 2025, the DVLA will deploy a taskforce to all mining sites to confiscate unregistered excavators and farming equipment. Collaborating with the Ghana Police Service, the Authority is ready to take action against any unregistered equipment found on mining sites or being used for commercial purposes.

Owners of excavators and farm equipment are urged to heed the two-week ultimatum and register their equipment at any DVLA office across the country. Failure to do so will result in confiscation and possible arrest – the choice is yours.

Let’s work together to eliminate illegal mining activities and protect our environment. Register your excavators and farm equipment today to avoid any legal repercussions. The DVLA means business, and they are determined to uphold the law and maintain order in the mining
