Kosmos Energy’s $2bn Investment Set to Transform Ghana’s Petroleum Sector

In a groundbreaking announcement at the 2025 Africa Energy Forum, Kosmos Energy pledged a massive $2bn investment in Ghana’s petroleum sector. This landmark investment, combined with the government’s commitment to reform, is set to significantly enhance the country’s energy narrative.

According to the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, this investment signals a new chapter in Ghana’s energy story—one that is rooted in transparency, collaboration, and opportunity. Speaking at this year’s Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, USA, Mr. Jinapor emphasized that Ghana is the right place to do business.

With a new administration focused on overhauling systems and implementing bold fiscal and regulatory reforms, Ghana is open and ready for investment. Mr. Jinapor stated, “The prospects are already becoming evident. We are determined to reverse the trend and scale up production. With these efforts, we will continue to supply reliable power to Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. Ghana remains a pivot for energy security in the West African sub-region.”

The Africa Energy Forum featured prominent energy leaders, including Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources; Emeafa Hardcastle, CEO of the Petroleum Commission; Judith Blay, CEO of the Ghana National Gas Company; Nana Joe Mensah, Senior Vice President of Kosmos Energy HC; and Simon Madjie, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.

With Kosmos Energy’s substantial investment and the government’s commitment to reform, Ghana’s petroleum sector is poised for significant growth and development. This partnership between the public and private sectors will not only benefit Ghana’s economy but also enhance energy security in the region.
