Mahama Launches African Political Parties Initiative

The Africa Governance Centre, in partnership with the Government of Ghana, is set to host a groundbreaking event that will shape the future of democracy and economic development in Africa. The African Political Parties Summit, taking place from August 12 to 24, 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre, will bring together political leaders, civil society experts, and international development organizations from over 50 African and Caribbean countries.
This historic gathering will serve as a platform for dialogue, consensus-building, and collaboration among the continent’s major political parties. With delegations from more than 100 political parties in attendance, including heads of state and party leaders, the Summit aims to strengthen democratic governance and spur economic transformation in Africa.
Former President John Mahama, a champion of democracy and good governance, is spearheading this initiative to promote inter-party cooperation and drive positive change on the continent. In a statement to the Ghana News Agency, Mahama emphasized the importance of fostering dialogue and partnerships among political parties to address key challenges facing Africa.
The African Political Parties Summit represents a unique opportunity for leaders to come together, exchange ideas, and develop innovative solutions to complex problems. By uniting under a shared vision for progress and development, these parties have the potential to shape the future of their countries and the continent as a whole.
