Contractor sets new date for Ofankor-Nsawam road completion

As anyone who has ever been stuck in traffic on the Ofankor-Nsawam Dual Carriage Road can attest, the completion of this project cannot come soon enough. Unfortunately, it seems that the light at the end of the tunnel has been pushed back once again.

Originally slated for completion on July 20, 2024, the project has been plagued by delays, with the latest setback pushing the deadline to May 21, 2025. And now, it appears that even this revised timeline is in jeopardy, as the contractor has announced that the project will be delayed by an additional 15 months.

The main reasons for the extended timeline are compensation issues involving affected persons and the relocation of utility lines belonging to various agencies. According to the latest progress report, only 76 out of 328 affected structures have qualified for compensation, with just 40 owners receiving payments.

In a statement, Chief Resident Engineer Kwabena Bempong explained that these unresolved issues have hindered progress, with the project currently sitting at 74 per cent completion. As a result, meeting the May 2025 target is simply not feasible at this time.

While this news may be frustrating for commuters and residents in the area, it is important to remember that these delays are necessary to ensure that all affected parties are properly compensated and that necessary utility lines are safely relocated.

So, until the next deadline is set, it looks like we’ll have to continue to navigate the construction zones and traffic jams. But rest assured, the Ofankor-Nsawam Dual Carriage Road project will eventually be completed – even if it takes a bit longer than expected. Stay tuned for further updates on this ongoing
