Bagbin urges NHIS reform to ease burden on lupus patients

In a meeting with the Oyemam Autoimmune Foundation at Parliament House in Accra, Mr. Bagbin stressed the urgent need to integrate lupus care into the NHIS, citing the significant financial burden faced by many patients due to the high cost of treatment.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects at least five million people worldwide, causing damage to various parts of the body. World Lupus Day, observed annually on May 10, aims to raise awareness about this debilitating condition and advocate for better support and resources for those living with lupus.
The issuance of the World Lupus Day Proclamation in 2004 was a significant milestone in recognizing the global impact of lupus and demonstrating a commitment to addressing the needs of individuals affected by the disease. Ghana ratified the proclamation in 2017, further solidifying its commitment to raising awareness and supporting those living with lupus.
