Kharkiv Under Fire: Russia’s Most Devastating Attack Yet

In the early hours of Saturday, Russia bombarded Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, with a barrage of strikes that left at least three people dead. This brutal assault came just one night after Moscow launched one of the largest aerial attacks on Ukraine since the start of the war.
The city of Kharkiv, located just 30 kilometers from the Russian border, was rocked by “at least 40 explosions” according to Mayor Igor Terekhov. In a Telegram post, Terekhov described the attack as the most powerful since the beginning of the full-scale war, with the enemy using missiles, drones, and guided aerial bombs to wreak havoc on the city.
The devastation caused by the attacks was evident as emergency services released videos showing a large fire burning in a multi-story apartment block in the Osnovyanskyi district, where two people lost their lives. Another victim was killed in a strike that hit a house in the Kyivskyi district to the north.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the attacks, stating that Russia continues its terror against civilians and calling for increased pressure on Moscow to stop the killing and destruction.
The recent wave of attacks on Ukraine is widely seen as retaliation for a daring drone operation by Kyiv that disabled a significant portion of Russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers. As tensions escalate and violence intensifies, it is crucial for the international community to step up efforts to bring an end to the conflict and protect the lives of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
Our thoughts are with the people of Kharkiv and all those affected by the violence in Ukraine. It is a stark reminder of the urgent need for peace and diplomacy to prevail in this
