Ghanaian socialite and musician Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia 4Reall, is set to be released from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia today after serving a one-year and one-day prison sentence for her involvement in a romance scam.
The 32-year-old influencer, who gained fame through her Instagram profile with over 3.4 million followers, was extradited from the United Kingdom to the United States in May 2023. Following her guilty plea in February 2024, she was sentenced by U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken to prison time, supervised release, and hefty restitution.
Montrage was part of a criminal enterprise that defrauded vulnerable Americans, predominantly older individuals, of over $2 million through elaborate schemes, including fake gold transportation and phony FBI investigations. She personally received funds from numerous victims, totaling over $2 million in fraudulent proceeds.
Despite her involvement in the scam, Montrage expressed remorse for her actions and vowed to turn over a new leaf upon her release. Her legal team proposed a return timeline to Ghana, where she plans to start afresh and contribute positively to society.
