Ghana to Build Second Gas Processing Plant: A Game-Changer for Energy Security

Ghana is set to revolutionize its energy landscape with the construction of a Second Gas Processing Plant (GPP II), a project described by Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, as a game-changer that will not only boost energy security but also save the economy hundreds of millions of dollars.

Speaking at the inauguration of the GPP II Implementation Committee, Dr. Forson highlighted the unsustainable nature of Ghana’s over-reliance on expensive liquid fuels to power its plants, which costs the nation more than $1 billion annually. He emphasized that the new Gas Processing Plant would save the country close to $500 million every two years, allowing for the project to be paid for within a short period while also creating over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Joining forces with Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, Dr. Forson inaugurated the technical committee tasked with overseeing the project’s implementation. He urged the committee, chaired by the Deputy Minister for Energy, to deliver a comprehensive implementation plan within four weeks, emphasizing the urgency of expediting critical infrastructure delivery.
