Ghana Railway Development Authority staff not on strike – CEO clarifies

In a recent press release dated May 12, the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) clarified that its staff are not on strike, dispelling any confusion or misinformation that may have been circulating. The Acting CEO, Dr Frederick Appoh, emphasized that the GRDA and the Ghana Railways Company Limited (GRCL) are separate entities with distinct legal mandates.
According to the statement, the GRDA was established under the Railways Act, 2008 (Act 779) to own, develop, maintain, and regulate railway infrastructure in Ghana. On the other hand, the GRCL, a state-owned limited liability company, is primarily responsible for operating railway services, including passenger and freight transport.
Dr Appoh reassured the public that the GRDA is fully operational and has not initiated or endorsed any form of public demonstration on any issue. Instead, the authority is currently focused on final preparations for the operationalization of the newly constructed 97-kilometre Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line, which will be supported by two new trains procured by the government.
In light of this clarification, it is important for the public to understand the distinction between the GRDA and the GRCL, and to recognize the ongoing efforts of the GRDA in advancing railway development in Ghana. With the upcoming launch of the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line, it is evident that the GRDA is committed to improving transportation infrastructure and enhancing connectivity within the country.
As we look forward to the positive impact of these developments, let us support the efforts of the GRDA and appreciate the important role they play in shaping the future of railway transportation in Ghana.
