Siddarth Gothi, a prominent figure in the Botswana Diamond Manufacturers Association, has highlighted the crucial role of skilled workers in the diamond industry. He emphasized that while Botswana has the raw materials and infrastructure in place, the lack of skilled workers is hindering the sector’s growth.
Training a competent diamond worker is a time-consuming and costly process, with significant investments required. This becomes even more challenging when skilled workers leave for higher-paying opportunities elsewhere, resulting in a loss of expertise for the local industry. Gothi criticized the government for its lack of support for training initiatives, particularly for newly licensed factories that are struggling to find skilled workers.
