ECOWAS Court to hold sensitisation outreach, external court session in Lagos

The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, is set to bring justice closer to the people of Lagos State, Nigeria, with a sensitization outreach and external court session scheduled from 5 to 7 May 2025 and 8 to 16 May 2025 respectively. This initiative is aimed at promoting access to justice for all citizens of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The ECOWAS Court plays a crucial role in ensuring the protection of human rights and the rule of law within the 15-member regional bloc. By holding external court sessions in different member states, the Court is able to reach a wider audience and provide an opportunity for citizens to learn more about its functions and services.
During the sensitization outreach, the ECOWAS Court will engage with legal professionals, civil society organizations, and the general public to raise awareness about the Court’s mandate and the importance of regional integration in promoting peace and stability in West Africa. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the procedures for accessing the Court, as well as the types of cases that can be brought before it.
The external court session in Lagos presents a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and even governments to seek redress for violations of their human rights or breaches of ECOWAS laws.
